Privacy Policy
Last updated 24 August 2026
SelfSyncMe has no servers of its own, no accounts and no analytics. Your notes are files on your device.
What the app stores, and where
Your notes are ordinary Markdown files. On iPhone and iPad they live in the app's folder in your own iCloud Drive, which is why the same notes appear on your other devices. That folder is visible to you in the Files app, and you can open, copy or delete it with any other app. On the Mac they are a folder you choose.
Because the files are in your iCloud Drive rather than in a database we run, their handling is covered by Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy. We have no access to them. Turning off iCloud Drive for SelfSyncMe keeps everything on the one device instead.
Version history, backups and app settings are stored on the device itself and are not synchronized.
What we collect
Nothing. The app contains no analytics library, no crash reporter, no advertising identifier and no tracking of any kind. It does not ask for your email address and has no account to sign in to.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why, and what leaves the device |
|---|---|
| Calendars | To show your schedule beside a day note and to write the time blocks you choose back into a calendar you pick. Events are read and written on the device, through Apple's own EventKit. Nothing is sent to us. |
| Reminders | To show the day's reminders on the timeline and complete them when you check them off. On the device only. |
| Microphone | Only during a live session or a voice note that you start. See below for where that audio goes. |
Each permission is asked for at the moment the feature is first used, and the app works without any of them.
AI features send text to a provider you choose
The AI assistant, voice notes and the live meeting assistant are the only features that send anything off the device, and they are off until you configure them.
You supply the provider's address and your own API key. When you use one of these features, the relevant text — the selection, the note, or the audio of the session — is sent directly from your device to that provider, under your account with them. It does not pass through us, and we could not read it if it did. What the provider does with it is governed by the agreement between you and them, so it is worth reading theirs.
The live meeting assistant transcribes audio while a session is running. That audio may include the voices of other people in the meeting. Recording and transcribing a conversation may require the consent of everyone in it where you live; obtaining that consent is your responsibility. The session stops the moment you close it, nothing is kept afterwards unless you switch on the optional session log, and that log is a file in your own workspace.
Published notes
Publishing a note is available in the self-hosted web app, not in the App Store build. Where it is available, it creates a secret link served by the machine running the app — not by us. Anyone with the link can read that one note until you unpublish it. Treat the link like a password.
The Mac app checks for updates
The macOS app is downloaded from this site rather than from the App Store, so
nothing else would tell you a new version exists. Once a day it fetches a single
static file from selfsyncme.app to compare version numbers. It sends no
identifier and no information about you or your notes — it is the same file for
everybody, and the request is indistinguishable from loading this page. As with any
web request, our host sees the IP address it came from.
Turn it off with
defaults write app.selfsyncme.mac SelfSyncUpdateCheck -bool false.
The iPhone and iPad app does not do this: the App Store handles its updates.
Payments
There are none. The app is free, sells nothing, and contains no payment path — so there is no billing information about you anywhere, not even at Apple.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and a change that affects what leaves your device will be described in the app's release notes.
